Functional Skills qualifications are intended to support learners as they seek to improve their applied literacy and numeracy. English Entry 2 is your first step toward progress towards GCSE.

PURPOSE AND AIM OF QUALIFICATIONS
Learners who achieve the qualification at each level may progress to the next level. The Entry Level qualification should provide a foundation for progression into employment or further technical education and develop skills for everyday life.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No age limit.

There are no entry requirements for these qualifications and no formal age restrictions.
TOTAL QUALIFICATION TIME (TQT)
The Total Qualification Time for this qualification is 58 hours. Total Qualification Time represents the total time a learner may take to achieve the qualification, including both guided learning and all other learning.
UNITS
To achieve the qualification, the learner must achieve a pass in all of the following three components:

 Speaking
 Listening
 Communicating
ASSESSMENT
The qualifications at each level are made up of three externally set assessment components (Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communicating).

About the Qualification

Functional Skills qualifications are intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths and English. They focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. They can be completed alongside City & Guilds' English and Mathematics Skills and Principles of Using English and Mathematics qualifications, as well as being used to support your progress towards GCSE.

Functional Skills qualifications are available across five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2), and are completed in a wide range of college, community and work-based settings.

Achieving these qualifications should increase your confidence and motivation, and the skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.

Successful learners will:

• Be able to provide reliable evidence of a their achievements against demanding content that is relevant to the workplace.
• Show their underpinning knowledge as well as their ability to apply this in different contexts.
• Help learners to gain confidence and fluency in, and a positive attitude towards, English.
• Be able to demonstrate their competence in English by using it in real-world situations as well as demonstrating a sound grasp of basic English knowledge and skills.
• Be able to demonstrate their competence across three components, Reading; Writing; Speaking, Listening and Communicating.
