ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to communicate effectively through reading, writing and/or speaking and listening in their everyday life, study or the world of work.

PURPOSE AND AIM OF QUALIFICATIONS
Learners who achieve the qualification at each level may progress to the next level. The Entry Level qualification should provide a foundation for progression into employment or further technical education and develop skills for everyday life.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking these qualifications but learners are required to have completed an initial and diagnostic assessment to identify the appropriate level to study and to identify the gaps which need to be addressed within the level studied. These qualifications are suitable for learners aged 14 years or over.
TOTAL QUALIFICATION TIME (TQT)
The Total Qualification Time for this qualification is 270 hours. Total Qualification Time represents the total time a learner may take to achieve the qualification, including both guided learning and all other learning.
UNITS
To achieve the qualification, the learner must achieve a pass in all of the following three components:

 Speaking
 Listening
 Communicating
ASSESSMENT
The qualifications at each level are made up of three externally set assessment components (Reading, Writing and Speaking, Listening and Communicating).

About the Qualification

ESOL skills for life is a suite of qualifications designed to support speakers of other languages based within the UK to develop their English language skills for work, further learning or everyday life.

The course is designed to help you build your skills and confidence in English to help you to live, study or work in the UK. You will study grammar, vocabulary, speaking and listening skills, writing skills, reading skills and functions of English. The exact syllabus will depend on whether you are studying at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3.

Successful learners will:

 achieve a qualification that enables the learners to focus on the acquisition of reading, writing and/or speaking and listening skills within the English language,
 focus on the practical skills required to learn English,
 progress onto the NOCN Functional Skills qualifications or GCSE English or other vocational study.
